Features:
R/V Pourquoi pas? is a multipurpose research vessel equipped with a full range of scientific equipment, arranged with very large laboratories and scientific spaces able to embark 40 technicians and scientists. The main purposes of the vessel are:
- Deep and coastal water hydrography and deploying hydrographic launches
- Exploration of the water column and currents
- Submarine cartography using its sounders and cataloguing of the sub-soil (seismic surveying, gravimetry, magnetism)
Multi-scale study of physical, biological or geological processes
- Exploration of sites using acoustic equipment, deployment of towed (SAR*), remotely operated (Victor 6000*) or autonomous devices (Nautile* ), positioning of heavy machinery close to the seabed by cable (Penfeld)
- Removal and analysis of water samples, of living matter, sediment or rocks

Modality of access under this proposal: full access to R/V Pourquoi pas ? is offered for 10 days cruise up to 40 scientists and technicians at a suitable time in the vessel annual schedule. In 2014 and 2015, the vessel will be located in North Atlantic (from the equator to south Iceland and south greenland - Sub-polar and polar areas excluded) and Mediterranean sea.
Scientists will engage with the Ifremer naval facilities and operations division in the planning and operational phase of the survey.
Support offered under this proposal: Full use of the vessel and its facilities (accommodation, food, labs, communication systems, ...).
